8.      Description of Agro-Climatic Zones and Farming Situation of the District 

 

District comes under Tarai & Bhawar agro climatic zone of Uttar Pradesh. The soil of district mainly made up of transported and deposited material of aluminum dominated rocks of Tarai region having pH 7.0 to 8.1. The district has total Geographical area 368178ha and total cropped area 222908 ha (Rabi 158794 ha, Kharif 202 344 ha, Zaid 5859 ha) total irrigated area is 348637 ha. Cropping intensity of the district is 172 percent and produces mainly paddy (149847ha) wheat  (141609ha) and sugarcane (43675ha).  Normal rainfall is 1250mm and temperature between 4.5 to 470C.

(i)        High incidence of diseases & pests in rice & sugarcane.

(ii)       Poor yield of basmati rice & scented indigenous.

            (iii)     Low organic matter contents.

            (iv)      Imbalance use of fertilizers in major crops.

            (v)       Non adoption of plant protection measures.

            (vi)      Problem of insects, diseases & lack of micronutrients in orchards.

            (vii)     Lack of improved breeds of buffalo and cows.

(viii)       Lack of the feeding quality of milch animals.

(ix)      Depletion in ground water.

(ix)            Decline in soil fertility.

            (x)       Malnutrition in children.
