At Last

Ramabai Nagar is newly generated district carved out of Kanpur Nagar, which was earlier known as Manchester of East. The district economy is mainly agriculture based. Industrial and commercial activities are very limited. A large percentage of farmers are either marginal or small & their land holdings are un-economical. The majority of people are below poverty line or they live at subsistence level. The literacy level, particularly in female, is low. Lot of efforts are needed to improve the economic status of local inhabitants. Boosting of industrial activities, improved method of irrigation & agriculture, better medical, health & family planning services, level of education towards general awareness & skill development and existing level of infrastructure of the district such as roads, communication, electricity & power, civic amenities, shall definitely raise the status of the district at par with other developed districts of the state.

It has been estimated that, if initially a fund of Rs.470 crores is allocated in the district as per the financial plan suggested in the report, the district shall be able to make a big headway towards raising its status.
